Warthog

These common wild pigs favor open grounds, veils grassland, waterholes and pans
and they will also be seen in open woodland. The maximum weight of the adult boar
rarely exceeds 100kg. Their tusk varies in size and sometimes particularly those of the
female. Continual horning of the upper tusks against the bottom tusks keeps both sets
razor-sharp, which makes the warthog a dangerous animal.Warthog do not depend on
water, but drink copiously if it is available.

Mud wallowing is a favorite pass-time. The family sounder or group usually comprises
the male, the female and piglets. After some time the male deserts the group but the
bond between the female and piglets last longer even up to three years.

Enemies are principally lion and leopard, cheetah sometimes takes the young. The warthog
is adept at digging with its hard shovel shaped snout, which is a most effective digging tool.
Its prime fare is the grasses and also the new grass sprouts after a burn. Berries and
stripped off tree bark are also eaten.
