In the Nama language, Namib means "vast place", and this is
an understatement. This
park is the largest conservation
area in Namibia and one of the largest in the world, at
almost 50 000 km².

Highest sand dune in the world (383 metre)
The desert has given name to the country of Namibia. The
desert is considered to be
the world's oldest, and there has
been a desert climate in this area in at least 80 million
years. It falls less than ten millimeters of rain per year,
which means that the area is
very poor in life.
The life
that exists is largely unique to the Namib Desert.
