Lions are the largest of African predators. Only the male is maned and in very rare cases unmanned males have been recorded.  These, the most sociable of the cats, from prides
of 3 to 30 or more individuals, consisting of 1 dominant male, one dominant female, several adults males and females, sundry sub-adults and cubs. Lions have a wide habitat tolerance, from desert conditions to fairly dense bush.

They are absent from densely afforested areas. Lions are active at night, mainly around
sunrise and early evening. In the day they laze away the hours in the shade, or move
sluggishly around.
An extremely wide range of food is consumed, virtually anything palatable
that moves, even insects, mice and up the scale to buffalo or even elephant.  It would seem, however that the wildebeest is the prime choice.
