Hunt in Northern Territory
SMJ Safaris main camp.
Location: North - East, 6 hours from Windhoek The area is our own private hunting area and have been in our family since 1987. There has been a lot of work and changes from a full out cattle ranch to a total hunting area. The area has 14 different species on and a further two species can be hunted on neighboring areas. be Giraffe, Eland, Kudu, Waterbuck, Blue-wildebeest, Burchells Zebra, Oryx, Redhartebeest, Blackwildebeest, Impala, Blesbok, Warthog, Steenbok, Duiker. Dik-Dik and Klipspringer, can be hunted on neighboring areas. This area itself consist out of 44 500 acres which belongs to me and my family and then a further 50 000 acres in neighboring areas of bush-veld hunting conssesion. The hunting here is primarily done with bushman trackers that are used to locate fresh track and then followwing the track, taking plainsgame hunting in this area to a new level. This kind of hunting are seen as the most traditional way of hunting in Africa. This can provide the hunter with great excitement and pleasure especially if they have worked hard for the desired trophies. The Bushman are a real pleasure to hunt with and to see them work is even better, most of the clients that has hunted with them are really astonished by there skill and knowledge of the bush. These bushman comes from the home-land next to our farm and normally only comes to help use with the hunters during the hunting season. After the hunting season has passed they go back to there villages to live their traditional lives of hunting and gathering.  The species offered in this area are all of good sizes and it is best known for its big Eland, Kudu and Blue/Blackwidebeest and Hartebeest, although it is possible to take Oryx and Warthog of great sizes too. Our success rate in the area is very high, but as mentioned we hunt very ethical and as every hunter knows some days the luck is really on your side and some days not, as a old PH once told me the only thing you know in Africa is that you know nothing and this goes for all hunting. Trophy sizes are normally directly connected to the amount of time you spend looking for the big one. you can look for bigger trophies. Sometimes you also get lucky with a short hunt and are able to shoot something really nice, but we always tell clients interested in a specific size to book some extra days. We have a safari camp situated in the middle of the hunting area. The camp is permanently build with en-suite bathrooms to all the bungalows. We can take a maximum of six clients in the camp. It also have a dinning area and lounge with fire place and trophies, the real traditional way. The boma in the camp is a open sky area with a fireplace were all the stories are told over a cold drink after a days hunting. There is electricity in the camp provided by generator that runs during the day, with battery power for lights during the evening. Telephone and cellphone as well as email services are also provided in camp. The swimming pool is also accessible at the main house. We prepare 80% of the tie game in our camp and most of it is from the hunter's animals that they have shot, offcourse it is rested a few days and then prepared over the BBQ and just talk to any-one that has been with us and the first thing they says is "oh those eland steaks". Me and my staff will take the utmost care of all our guests so that they go home totaly satisfied.    Activities in Area As this area is in the North-East of the country we can offer the clients and non-hunters quite a few activities. As mentioned we have Bushmanland close by which offer the client a opportunity to see the wild Bushman as they lived millions of years ago. We go hunting with them, look for wild foods and medicine and during the evening they perform their traditional dances for us. This really brings you back from where you came. area with four of the big five in. The Okavango river is 2 hours away with good fishing and sightseeing for clients interested in that . area on sandgrouse and turtle doves. |
