Before your trip
Health
We advise the clients to take anti-malaria tablets if they would be
travelling
to the northern parts of the country and should begin with the course
two weeks prior to departure. Please consult your Doctor about this.
First
aid kits will be available at all times. If you are on any medication
please
bring a supply with you. Medical air rescue services will be provided in
case of an
emergency.
Season
February to November is the hunting season for all game in Namibia, but
it would be recommended to come between March and end October.
Rifles used
We normally ask the clients to bring any 30 cal rifle or bigger meaning
308/30-06 or
300 Win these are great for African plainsgame but if you can handle a
bigger gun as
well it is even better as we say in Africa the bigger the better, but
then it has to go along
with accurate shooting. Out in the
mountains it is normally far shooting.
Shots from a 100m up
to 250m is possible if you are willing and sure about the shoot,
therefore we recommend
straight shooting caliber's for this area something in the line
of 300
Win, 7mm Rem Mag or
even 338 Win Mag does really good, of course this does
not mean that you
cannot bring your 9,3x62 along, you just have to get closer to your
animal with these caliber's or be sure about the bullet ballistic.
Bullets
We recommend that the clients coming to Africa to hunt need to bring
good premium
bullets
we do prefer hard chemically bonded bullets. We strongly advice that
you don't
spend money
on a hunting trip but not spend good money on good bullets. Bullet
quality
is even more
important then caliber.
SMJ Safari recommend
- Barnes triple shock TSX
- CDP bullets
- Fusion bullets
- Swift A-frame
-
Nosler Partition Gold
- Trophy bonded plastic tip or bear claw
- Sako Hammerhead
- Triple expand farrow bullet
